Youth Justice

The Youth Justice Service works closely with Health, Social Care, Education, Complex Safeguarding, the Voluntary and Community Sector, the Police, and other agencies to support children and young people in the youth justice system and those at risk of exploitation or offending.

They help young people to recognise offending behaviour and understand the consequences, whilst also helping them to address any difficulties in their life so they do not offend again.

The main areas of work of the Manchester Youth Justice Service are:-

  • Early Intervention, Prevention and Diversion Services

  • Custody, Remand & Resettlement

  • Restorative Justice & Victim Services

Welfare Cloud provides Manchester Youth Justice Service with a secure ePEP system for the young people who have been issued with a substantive court order. If you are working with a young person supported by the Manchester Youth Justice Service, please find information about how to login and access the PEP for these children and young people within the PEP section of this website.

Some children and young people may be in the care of Manchester and also have Youth Justice involvement. The PEPs for these children and young people will be completed by their allocated Social Worker and Designated Teacher in their education setting, with the expectation that the allocated Youth Justice Case Manager will be invited by the Designated Teacher and/or Social Worker to participate in the meeting and contribute to their PEP.

Where a child or young person with Youth Justice involvement, has a social worker, but is not in the care of Manchester, their PEP will be completed by the Youth Justice Case Manager and the Designated Teacher in their education setting, with the expectation that the allocated social worker will be invited by the Youth Justice Case Manager and/or Designated Teacher to participate in the meeting and contribute to their PEP.

If the child or young person has Youth Justice involvement, but no social care involvement, then the PEP will be completed by the Youth Justice Case Manager and the Designated Teacher in their education setting. Other professionals who work within Manchester Youth Justice Service (eg. Career Connect staff, SHiFT guides, Educational Psychologists, CAMHS, etc) may also be invited by the Youth Justice Case Manager to attend the meeting and contribute to the PEP, particularly if the young person is not in education, employment or training (NEET).
